Oak Park Village Board Mtg: Workers’ Rights & Paris Agreement – 6/19/17

On Monday night the Oak Park Village Board will consider whether to opt out of the Cook County ordinance that would raise the minimum wage starting July 1 to $10 per hour, and add a dollar more each year until the minimum wage becomes $13 per hour. Also to be discussed is taking away paid sick leave. Come out to show your support for these very important workers' rights.

In addition, a proposed Board Resolution will be presented whereby Oak Park joins the Mayors National Climate Action Agenda (climate-mayors.org) in support of the Paris Climate Accords.  As of June 9, 2017, 292 U.S. mayors have committed on behalf of their municipalities to "adopt, honor and uphold the Paris Climate Agreement goals."

Currently, only eight Illinois municipalities have joined up. We want Oak Park to be the next. join us at the Village Hall at 7:30 pm to support this initiative.

And on a positive note, the Village Board will be proclaiming June as Gay Pride Month.  Mayor Abu-Taleb will read a proclamation.  Former Trustee Colette Lueck will accept the proclamation as a member of OPALGA.
